What Is Selenite?

Selenite is a variety of gypsum crystal that forms in long, fibrous blades with a soft white or translucent pearlescent appearance. It gets its name from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, a reference to its glowing, moonlike quality when light passes through it.
